Although it may seem overused, the best description for Downtown Colorado Springs is historic and charming. This area was developed by General Palmer in the late 1800s as a resort town and vacation destination. General Palmer had a vision for the future that is being enjoyed today. The area was created with extra wide streets and Pikes Peak as the focal point.

Homes in Downtown were built anywhere from the late 1800s through the 1950s. Historic structures exist throughout the area, and the upscale homes in the Old North End reflect Victorian architecture, complete with elaborate verandas and decorative woodwork. The Downtown area draws residents of all ages – from Millennials and Gen Xers to Baby Boomers looking to downsize.

Proximity to Bases

The easiest drive from Downtown Colorado Springs is to Fort Carson, but Peterson AFB and Shriever AFB are also a relatively short commutes.

For the Family

If shopping and first-class dining are two of your favorite pastimes, then you should check out the unique shops, restaurants and coffee houses in Downtown. The Lincoln Center is a newly converted meeting hub with a coffee roaster, brewery with craft beer and a bakery. Downtown is also home to the Olympic Training Center. Tours of this amazing facility are available, giving you the opportunity to see first-hand where some of America’s most elite athletes train.

The area also offers parks and close proximity to the beautiful campus of Colorado College. This private college is nestled in the midst of historic Victorian homes in the Old North End. The rolling lawns and trees that canopy the streets create a lovely place to walk, raise a family and enjoy the youthful vibe of this section of the Downtown area. Downtown also offers quick and easy access to mountain hiking, Garden of the Gods, Bear Creek Park and the scenic Woodland Park area.

By the Numbers

At an altitude of 6,000 feet and with a geographically flat landscape, Downtown Colorado Springs does not get much snowfall, especially compared with other areas in the region. During the winter, you can expect highs in the 40s and 50s. In the summer, highs will reach into the 80s.
