It is almost the 4th of July! Whether you plan to stay in Colorado Springs for the festivities or head out of town to celebrate, this holiday is the perfect excuse to update your front porch. Here are a few of our favorite patriotic curb appeal ideas:
1. Hang an American Flag
If you don’t have one hanging on your front porch already, consider hanging up an American flag. You can purchase a flagpole mount and brackets online, or at the local hardware store in Colorado Springs. Just make sure to follow etiquette when displaying a flag at home, which you can read more about here. For example, the American flag is never to touch the ground or water.
You can also use mini flags to border your walkway or garden beds. You can buy these at Hobby Lobby or other local craft stores in Colorado Springs.
2. Red, White, and Blue Flowers
Another festive curb appeal idea is to add red, white, and blue flowers to the planters on your front porch or in your garden. According to Lowes, a few flower varieties that work well together are:
Red – salvia, geranium, verbena, poppies, zinnia, begonias, mums, snapdragons and celosia.
White – geranium, alyssum, Shasta daisy, salvia, mums snapdragons, verbena, and zinnias.
Blue – ageratum, bluebells, lobelia, verbena and salvia.
3. Decorate Your Door with a Patriotic Wreath
We love these patriotic wreaths on Etsy! Handmade by artisans all over the United States, these door wreaths are the perfect way to add some red, white, and blue to your front porch. They can also be used to decorate for other American holidays, such as Memorial Day and Labor Day.
4. Update Your Patio Furniture
If you have outdoor seating on your front or back patio, you can swap out the standard pillows and cushions for some more festive ones. Red and white checkered pillows mixed with solid blue covers work together well, and cushions with blue and white stars also look festive.
Even if you are in the process of selling your home in Colorado Springs, festive curb appeal, as long as it’s not tacky, can benefit the sale of your property. It’s obvious, falling in love with a home is an emotional process. Buyers like to see that a home has been taken care of and, curb appeal – when done well – has been shown to increase the value, as well as the sale time, of homes.
